This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for intermediates to learn how to use preset shapes and to shade.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro 9, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

You will need to download these supplies.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

1.  Open new, transparent image, size = 450, 650

2.  Flood-fill the image with a dark blue or black color.

3.  Open up the arch tube and Edit > Copy.  Then click on the blue image and click Edit > Paste > Paste As New Layer.  With the mover tool, move the arch up to the top center.

4.  Open up the roses and vines tube.  In the top menu click Layers > Merge Visible.  I left it in separate layers in case you want to change the colors of your roses.

5.  In the top menu, click Edit > Copy.  Then click on the blue image and click Edit > Paste > Paste as New Layer.  With the mover tool, move the vines and roses over one column.

6.  In the Layer Palette, right click on the roses layer and choose duplicate.

7.  In the top menu, click Image > Mirror.  With the mover tool, move the roses into position over the other column.

8.  Open up the girl tube.  Click Edit > Copy.  Then click on the arch image and click edit > Paste > Paste as New layer.  With the mover tool, move the girl into position.

9.  In the top menu, click Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.

10.  In top menu, click Image > Resize.  Be sure Resize all Layers is CHECKED, and resize to 60%.

11.  In top menu, click Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen.

12.  In Layer Palette, Right-click on layer and choose Duplicate.  Duplicate one more time so that you have 3 layers.

13.  Right-click on each layer and choose rename.  Rename background1, background2, background3.

14.  Highlight the top layer in the Layer Palette.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Flaming Pear > Flood.  Set the settings to the one in the pic below:  70, 0, 57, 50, 40, 50, 42, 25, 43, 33, 43, Glue = normal.

15.  Highlight the middle layer in the Layer Palette.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Flaming Pear > Flood.  Change the Waviness to 35, leave the other numbers the same as before.

16.  Highlight the bottom layer in the Layer Palette.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Flaming Pear > Flood.  Change the Waviness to 45, leave the other numbers the same as before.

17.  Right-click on the top layer in the Layer Palette and choose New Raster Layer.

18.  Flood-fill the new layer with a gold or blue gradient.  In the top menu, click Selections > Select All.

20.  Right-click on the frame layer and choose Duplicate.  Duplicate this one more time.

You should now have 3 background layers and 3 frame layers.

21.  Left-click on the layers and drag up or down to rearrange.  Make sure that your layers alternate from top down:  frame, background, frame, background, frame, background.

22.  Click on the eyes of the last 4 layers to HIDE these layers.  Then click on the top layer to highlight it.

23.  Right-click on that layer and choose Merge > Merge Visible.

24.  Now  HIDE that merged layer, and UNHIDE the next two layers.

25.  Click on the background layer that is NOT hidden to highlight it.  Right-click on that layer and choose Merge > Merge Visible.

26.  Now HIDE this merged layer (and the other one), and UNHIDE the last two layers.
