Light Lines
I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial. What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial. Share only my link. This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about making eggs. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS3 - CS4. You may download a free trial at Adobe. Remember to save as a .psd file often! 1. Open a new, transparent image, size 500 x 500 pixels 2. Fill it with a dark color. I chose a dark shade of blue. It must be a dark color! Edit > Fill > Color
3. Layer > New > Layer
4. With the rectangle shape tool, draw a very thin rectangle across the image, using white color.
5. Right-click on the shape layer and choose Rasterize Layer
6. Right-click on the shape layer and choose Duplicate layer.
7. Filter > Other > Offset. Horizontal = 0, Vertical = -10. Wrap Around
8. Repeat Steps 6 & 7 until you have about 6 or 7 lines
9. Choose the Ellipse tool, color = white
10. Draw a small ellipse on one of the lines
11. Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur Radius = 2
12. Repeat Steps 10 & 11 and draw some oval lights on the other lines as well, making a random pattern. Be sure to leave some space to one side to add text later. 13. HIDE all the oval layers and HIDE the background (bottom) layer. Right-click on one of the line layers and choose Merge Visible.
14. HIDE the merge layer and then UNHIDE all the oval layers. Right-click on one of the light layers and choose Merge Visible. UNHIDE all layers. You should now have 3 layers -- the background layer on the bottom, the middle layer (all the lines), and the top layer (all the light ovals)
15. Right-Click on the line layer in the middle and choose Duplicate Layer
16. On the bottom line layer (now the third layer) set the layer blend mode to Soft Light or Overlay. 17. On the top line layer (now the second layer), Use the rectangle selection tool to delete parts of the white lines -- leave some of the lines! When you do this, you should see the soft lines underneath.
18. Now choose the text tool, and in white type your text. I used Zapfino Linotype 2 for my text.
19. Set the foreground color = white, background = black.
20. Layer > New > Layer
21. Filter > Render > Clouds
22. Change the cloud layer blend mode to Soft Light
23. I thought the effect was too light, so I right-click on the clouds layer and choose Duplicate layer.
24. With the rectangle selection tool, draw a rectangle around the part of the tab you want to keep. Image > Crop Image.
25. Save this as a JPEG. File > Save As
