This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to use a brush and vertical text. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I wrote this with Paint Shop Pro X2, but the steps may also be done in any version. You may download a free trial at Corel. Remember to save as a psp file often! Download Supplies Download and install the Western font. 1. Open the Sheriff's Star image 2. File > Export > Custom Brush
3. Choose the paintbrush tool. Set it to the star brushtip, size = 813
4. Open up a new transparent image, size 800 x 800. 5. Set the foreground color to a silver or gray gradient
6. Left-click the brush once in the center of the canvas to create the star
7. Right-click on the star layer and choose Duplicate. Duplicate once more so that you have 3 star layers
8. On the top star layer: Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. Set: Vertical & Horizontal = 5, Opacity = 75, Blur = 7.92, Shadow color = medium gray
9. On second star layer: Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. Change Vertical & Horizontal = - 5 (NEGATIVE)
10. Right-click on top layer and choose Merge > Merge Visible
11. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow, set: Vertical & Horizontal = 1, opacity = 100, blur = 2, color = black
12. Choose the type tool, set to Times New Roman, size = 120 px,
Set Create as Selection; it doesn't matter what background color you use, foreground = NULL
13. Layers > New Raster Layer
14. Left-click once in the middle of the star and type Sheriff . When you click apply, this is what you will see:
15. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout Vertical & Horizontal = 5, Opacity = 80, blur = 7.92, color = black
16. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow Vertical & Horizontal = 2, opacity = 80, blur = 5.94, Color = black
17. Right-click on the layer and choose Merge > Merge Down.
18. Open up the cowboy tube. edit > Copy. Click back on the star image. Edit > Paste as New Layer
19. Choose the font tool, set font = Western, size = 150 px
set the Direction to vertical
Set Stroke = 2
Set Kerning = - 250 (NEGATIVE)
20. Set foreground = black, and background = pattern (a nice wood pattern) 21. Type WANTED in all caps 22. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow, Set Vertical = 0, Horizontal = 10, Opacity = 100, Blur = 0, Color = black
23. With the mover tool, move the word Wanted into his hand, so that it looks like the cowboy is leaning against it.
24. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow, Vertical = 8, horizontal = 10, opacity = 65, blur = 15, color = black, CHECK Shadow on new layer
25. In the layer palette, click on the cowboy layer. With the magic wand, select the transparent area outside of the cowboy
26. In the Layer Palette, click on the shadow layer and press the DELETE key. this will delete all of the shadow that is on the transparent area, but not on the cowboy.
27. Right-click on the Wanted layer and choose Merge > Merge Down
28. Repeat Step 27 so that the word is merged to the cowboy
29. Effects > 3D Effects > drop Shadow, set vertical = 8, horizontal = 10, opacity = 65, blur = 15, color = black, CHECK shadow on new layer
30. In the layer palette, click on the star layer. With the magic wand select the transparent area outside of the star
31. click on the shadow layer and press dELETE. This will delete the part of the shadow that extends into the transparent area 32. Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. 33. Add your name 35. Save this as a GIF. File > Export > GIF Optimizer
